Sanuki No Sato and Sakae Sushi

Today we met some beloved family friends and had lunch at Sanuki No Sato. They are known for their udon, soba and donburi. Had a great time catching up, having a few laughs and enjoying Sanuki's food. After our annual trek to Marukai to purchase New Year's foods we picked up some Sakae Sushi in Gardena. Nothing beats it.

I had the Kakiage-don Combo (Hot Udon with Kakiage tempura donburi).

Troy, Pachi, Tak, Mom, Dad and Gayle

It aint fancy but it is an institution.

Love the menu board.

Doomo!

Nicely prepared to take home.

Mixed set: Inari, Saba, Tamago, Ebi, Futomaki and California roll.

Soon to be gone.

Mom's oshizushi

Every year on Christmas day my mom would make her "oshizushi" (pressed sushi). This year was no exception. The best time to eat it is right after it is pressed out. The press is a made out of wood and is in three distinct shapes. One of them is a cherry blossom shape, the other two are abstract but distinctly Japanese. In the middle is canned tuna cooked in sugar and shoyu. Once pressed it is topped with a scrambled egg square, red and green powered ebi flakes (shrimp). However we were out of it. Still tasted good though.
